Elissa + Gary / Daytona Beach Shores Wedding

Interview with our beautiful bride, Elissa:
HOW DID YOU MEET? We met in Philadelphia four years prior to the wedding. A mutual friend brought me to Gary’s art show opening… except, the friend was trying to set me up with Gary’s roommate. AND the mutual friend was Gary’s high school girlfriend ☺.
WHAT ATTRACTED YOU THE MOST TO YOUR HUSBAND? At this point, I’m not even sure. His unexpectedly kind heart and societal awareness was what made me know he could be my ‘boyfriend’.
HOW DID HE PROPOSE? We were sitting on a bench by the San Francisco Bay, and he pretty confidently asked, do you want to get married? It was cute and fitting. We’re a team, but I was actually surprised.
WHAT INSPIRED YOUR VISION FOR YOUR WEDDING? Living in Florida, our wedding became a destination for many of our friends and family… so the Beach Resort Weekend was perfect!
TELL US ABOUT FINDING YOUR VENUE: The setting was perfect. A boutique hotel on the beach. It was laid back, but they do so many weddings, that I was confident the staff could handle anything and I wouldn’t have to worry.
WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST PLANNING CHALLENGE? I thought I didn’t want the big, formal wedding, and I was trying to fight against it. Once I gave in, it turned out to be fun.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE DESIGN ELEMENT OF YOUR WEDDING? Our cake topper was a cute little clay figure of two honeybees sitting on a bench together.
DID YOU HAVE ANY DIY DETAILS? I designed my necklace for the wedding dress. And I designed the programs
WHAT WAS THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT OF YOUR WEDDING DAY? The getting ready part of the day was really nice and relaxing. And swing dancing with my brother was great. We used to do that together when we were teenagers.. but it’s been a long time.
DESCRIBE YOUR CAKE: that cake has become a Buxbaum family tradition over the past couple of years. It is our favorite chocolate cake from Costco. And is a bit symbolic of Gary joining the Buxbaum family and bonding with my parents.
HOW WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER? Sara and Jason were wonderful. From the moment I met them (and their dogs), I was comfortable. Everyone had told me that it was important to like your photographer, and it made the whole experience so pleasant. They were laid back and flexible, but also very professional and efficient. Artsy enough, but also practical. They worked so well together.
