Cris + Drew / Beautiful Deep Creek Lake Wedding

Interview with our amazing couple, Cris + Drew:
HOW DID YOU MEET? We were at a mixer before our first week of law school started and Drew walked over to me and asked if I purposely just ordered Popov vodka and tonic. I blankly looked at him and said, “Yeah, it is on special for $2.” We ended up having every class together and getting to know each other – and he finally accepted my choice in cheap drinks.
WHAT ATTRACTED YOU THE MOST TO YOUR HUSBAND/WIFE?
Drew: I was most attracted to Cris’s personality. She was super intelligent, witty, always making me laugh, and also super kind and thinking of me when she didn’t have to. Oh, I was also very physically attracted to her; that didn’t hurt either.
Cris: I was most attracted to Drew’s smile. I used to watch him across the room while we were in class waiting for him to laugh, which is stalkerish – but hey, we’re married now. I also loved that we were the only two people in our class who regularly showed up in sweatpants and hoodies.
HOW DID HE PROPOSE? He took me to Pittsburgh for a Christmas shopping trip and to spend the night. He kept trying to hurry me to go back to the hotel, but I kept him out shopping all day. When we finally checked into our room, he told me what a perfect day it had been – I interrupted him thinking that he was going to complain about shopping all day, that’s when he pulled out the ring.
WHAT INSPIRED YOUR VISION FOR YOUR WEDDING? We really wanted everything to be super laid back, but pretty. I loved the idea of a lot of white, silver and blush colors with candle light. He let me run wild ☺
TELL US ABOUT FINDING YOUR VENUE: Drew’s dad is one of the developers for the hotel. He used to let us stay for free, which was much needed while we were in school. We had so many wonderful memories there and really didn’t even consider looking for a different venue.
WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST PLANNING CHALLENGE? The invite list. We really wanted to keep it small, especially as the venue was limited on space. Also, not living in Deep Creek made it worrisome when choosing vendors.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE DESIGN ELEMENT OF YOUR WEDDING? I really loved how the chest in the room and the poles that were throughout the room turned out. I originally wanted to cover the chest, but it became a huge headache. I bought a ton of fabric and candles and had no clue what to do with it all. My sister, her fiancé and the manager at the venue made it wonderful.
DID YOU HAVE ANY DIY DETAILS? Have a crafty mother and set her up on Pinterest.
WHAT WAS THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT OF YOUR WEDDING DAY? It was all so wonderful. Seeing Drew for the first time, the speeches, everything. However, I will never forget trying to pose our puppy for pictures and Drew looking at me like I was crazy.
DESCRIBE YOUR CAKE: Our cake was very simple. It was all white, round and tiered. The icing was textured and there were just a few of our wedding flowers placed on the cake. We really wanted it to look like a cake instead of a sculpture.
HOW WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER? AMAZING! Sara walked into our room and within 10 second was singing along to Whitney Houston. The guys were all talking about how great Jason was, too. They really made you forget that they were taking pictures. More importantly, they made us feel so comfortable and we were constantly laughing instead of fake smiling for pictures.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU AND YOUR HUSBAND AS A COUPLE?
Attempting to get back to the “real world” after a dream wedding and a dream honeymoon.
