Heather + Jon / Making Their Own Sunshine at the Powel Crosley Estate

Interview with our new friends Heather + Jon:
How did the two of you meet? Meeting Jon was completely unexpected. I had committed to fishing with my brother prior to a tournament he was in and the same week I closed on a house. So needless to say, there was a little craziness occurring but I wasn’t going to miss the weekend with my brother. Meeting someone was not on the list, but my older brother, after first tournament day, wanted to show me one of the tournament fisherman’s boat. We walked over with my niece and nephew in hand and there was Jon, pleasant as can be. He introduced himself, turned on Little Nemo (the movie) for the kids and talked with my brother about the boat and tournament. He asked me out on a date shortly after and the rest is history 🙂
What attracted you to your husband? His rugged handsomeness, kind smile, and his ability to love like no other.
What attracted you to your wife? How pretty she was, how vibrant she was and her love for life.
How did Jon propose? Our engagement was at a weekend getaway to St. Augustine. Filled with happy tears, champagne, celebrating, and words I will never forget.
What inspired your vision for your wedding? We wanted our wedding to be near the water but with a vintage classic, intimate feel with our own added touches.
What was your biggest planning challenge? Biggest planning challenge, if I had to pick one, would be the distance between Orlando and Sarasota. Having Alexis Alexander (with Sarasota Wedding Gallery) was what made it all happen and gave me comfort that our day would be amazing despite the distance.
Do you have a favorite design element? Our favorite design element of our wedding would have to be the intimate ceremony in the great room. The lighting was perfect, the mahogany Chivari chairs filling the room with our friends and family, our huge beautiful mirror from our home on the mantle reflecting the amazing scene. The ceremony was originally going to be outside, however rainy weather pushed us to a contingency plan that turned into our favorite and most memorable part of the day.
Describe your cake: We did not opt for traditional wedding cake. We had delicious cupcakes made and a small cake for Jon and I, which sat upon vintage cake stands.
How was your experience with your photographer? The experience with the photographers was the easiest part of the day. Sara and Jason made us feel very comfortable and like we had known them for years. They worked with my family, and the other vendors perfectly. They made the most of the rainy day coming up with creative ways to get amazing shots…with umbrellas, rain boots, splashing, and allowing us to shine through and have a great time.
What’s next for you as a married couple? Jon and I are looking forward to a lifetime of memories made hand in hand with family and friends, traveling, being on the water, and loving one another more and more everyday. As I tell Jon, I am the luckiest.
