Jody + Greg / Amazing Caribbean Resort Destination Wedding

Interview with the wonderful Jody + Greg:
HOW DID YOU MEET? Greg and I have actually known each other for most of our lives. We grew up in the same neighborhood and even went to the same elementary school. We lost touch around high school but connected again as adults.
WHAT ATTRACTED YOU THE MOST TO YOUR HUSBAND/WIFE? For me (Jody) it was a few things… We both had a child at a young age – I think it bonded us because someone else could understand what the other was going through as a young single parent. We grew up in the same neighborhood and have similar backgrounds. Our families and friends are exceptionally important to both of us. I love that he is goofy yet serious – He is in a business suit during the week but loves nothing more then his flip flops on the weekends! For me (Greg) it was that shared the same values. I love that we have the same feelings of love for our friends and family. She really understands me and makes me a better man. She brings a great deal of peace and love to my chaotic world.
HOW DID HE PROPOSE? We were in Maine at my Grandmothers house, a place that is really special us. He had organized a bonfire down by the water with our daughters help. Next thing you know the girls were saying they were tired and wanted to go to bed – I was a confused by the sudden sleepiness! But soon understood why! It was a magical moment that I will never forget!
WHAT INSPIRED YOUR VISION FOR YOUR WEDDING? The venue was so beautiful that we didn’t want to do anything to take away from the natural beauty of the place. We wanted a destination wedding that was a beautiful setting. This way we could just focus on making it an amazing event. We wanted everything to look romantic and I definitely think we accomplished that!
TELL US ABOUT FINDING YOUR VENUE: The Caribbean Resort in Islamorada was amazing! As soon as we walked on the property we new it was where we wanted to get married! One of the best things about the location besides how beautiful it is and the fact that the people who own it are AMAZING – was that we were able to rent out the entire place. We loved the idea that we had the entire resort all to ourselves. We wanted a place where our guests would feel 100% safe and comfortable and just let the love flow.
WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST PLANNING CHALLENGE? I think the biggest planning challenge was that we had to bring everything to the site – from forks to tent! Thank goodness I hired an awesome catering and rental company!
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE DESIGN ELEMENT OF YOUR WEDDING? Hard to say… I loved everything! If I had to pick something though I think if would be the wood tables that we used at the reception. They weren’t your typical reception tables and I really think they worked perfectly with the surrounding natural elements.
DID YOU HAVE ANY DIY DETAILS? I loved the backdrop that we put up for everyone to take pictures in front of and the corn hole game. I am also really proud of the flower arrangements. We had two wonderful local florists bring in the flowers, I purchased all of the vases from goodwill and then my girlfriends helped me put them together the day of the wedding. It was a big money saver and I think they looked beautiful! My favorite DIY were the bouquets that my daughter and stepdaughter helped me make.
WHAT WAS THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT OF YOUR WEDDING DAY? (Jody)Wow its hard to pick just one! I think the vows Greg and the girls and I exchanged. Ok I can’t pick one! I also adored the speeches – especially from our daughters – it really meant the world to us.
(Greg)Jody gave me a gift just before the wedding. It was a small photo of my father in a locket that I put in my pocket next to my heart. That moment made my heart explode with love and I couldn’t wait to marry her. And I loved sharing that with everyone at the wedding just before we cut the cake.
DESCRIBE YOUR CAKE: My girlfriend Brooke made the cake – it was spectacular and such an amazing gift! The topper on the cake was also very special – my father gave it to us the night before at the rehearsal dinner. It was from my grandmother and grandfathers wedding cake from 1947! I can’t even explain what it meant to us to be able to use it!
HOW WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER? (Jody) Wonderful, comfortable, exciting! Sara and Jason did an amazing job making sure to cover everything! The photography was really important to me because at the end of the day, besides the memories in your heart and head, the photos are what you have to reflect on. It was really important to us to hire someone who really knew wedding photography and we love their organic style. REALLY important for someone who hates taking pictures!
(Greg) They made me wake up at 6:00 am on the day after my wedding. It hurt so bad! But I think I am going to thank them for doing that.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU AND YOUR HUSBAND AS A COUPLE? Back to work and school and fieldtrips and the girl’s activities! We are going to honeymoon in the summer when everything slows down a bit!
