Sara and I recently had the pleasure of documenting Paulette & Scott’s rooftop wedding at the Grand Bohemian Hotel in downtown Orlando. Luckily, I am a photographer because words cannot describe exactly how amazing their wedding was!
HOW DID YOU MEET? Scott and I met at work. He was my boss on a VH1 show that we both worked on. He was a producer at MTV/VH1 and I was the Production Assistant. We became friends on the show, and once I left that job, we kept in touch and became better friends — the rest is history!
WHAT ATTRACTED YOU THE MOST TO YOUR HUSBAND? His confidence and sense of humor, without a doubt. He’s really easy on the eyes, too — huge bonus!
HOW DID HE PROPOSE? He proposed at the Madarin Oriental here in NYC. He said we had dinner plans at the hotel, but all of a sudden we took a detour and he took me up to this suite that was all set up with flowers, champagne, and a beautiful view of Columbus Circle! As I was looking down at the view and exploring the room, he asked me to come over and sit down. I knew what was coming and was so excited that I couldn’t sit, but that’s when he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! We had some champagne, called our families, and went down to dinner so I could show off my new ring ☺
DID YOU HAVE ANY DIY DETAILS? Yes – lots! My cousin is a graphic designer, so we designed the Save The Dates and invitations together. After they were printed, I put them together completely – everything from gluing on little crystals to stuffing and printing the envelopes.
Scott and I were also the “DJs” for the reception. Yes – lots! My cousin is a graphic designer (Spring Studios, Inc.), so we designed most of the paper elements together — the save the dates, invitations, menus, and programs. We had an iPod wedding. We picked out every song and the order, and made play lists according to whether it was Dinner time or Bouquet Toss or Dancing time. There was no DJ/MC, so we had some of the braver souls in our wedding party and our wedding coordinator do the MCing. We loved it because it made things more personal and there was no chance of anybody’s name being messed up.
DESCRIBE YOUR WEDDING FLOWERS: I’m really bad with descriptions, especially when it comes to flowers, but all of the flower arrangements that Thallo made were spot on! I wanted clean, white, and streamlined for the Ceremony and lots of color and texture for the Reception – and that’s exactly what we got. I loved incorporating the feathers into the arrangements and bouquets, too.
DESCRIBE YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH YOUR PHOTOGRAPHERS: Scott and I didn’t meet Jason and Sara before our wedding day because when we got down to Florida, things got too hectic and we didn’t have time to do our Engagement Shoot with them prior. I was a little nervous, but based on our email correspondence and their website/portfolio, I knew they would at least deliver a great product. It turns out, we could not have felt more comfortable with them! I thought it would be my least favorite part of the day, but I felt really at ease the whole time and they made it really fun. They make a great team and come up with great ideas on the spot. I also love that they put up some of the pictures we had just taken up on a laptop during the reception – that was hit!
WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU AND YOUR HUSBAND AS A COUPLE? Next is working our butts off and making silly TV so we can save up some money for kids!
ANY VENDOR LOVE OR SHOUT OUTS? All of the people that were a part of our wedding were SO amazing!!! Sara and Ann from Thallo never ceased to amaze us from beginning to end; the Grand Bohemian was such a great venue, provided such a cool aesthetic, and the staff was great, too; our coordinator, Deb Kettler, who is so great at what she does; my friend, Mark Therrien, who did us a huge favor and shot our video; the hair and makeup team from Salon Cielo at Mall of Millenia, especially Cypress, who put the team together – they were a blast; and last but not least, YOU GUYS (Concept Photography) — you rocked!! THANK YOU!!!
